History
Yamagishi Station serves the JR East Yamada Line in Morioka, Iwate Prefecture, 4.9 rail kilometres from the line's terminus at Morioka. Before formal promotion it operated from 10 January 1951 as the Yamagishi temporary boarding point, then opened as a full station of the Japanese National Railways on 10 February 1952. It became part of JR East with the 1 April 1987 privatisation. From the timetable revision of 14 March 1998 all Rias rapid services have stopped here. The station has a single side platform with no station building; a waiting shelter sits on the platform and three pedestrian entrances reach the station — from the west, the east, and beside the waiting shelter. From October 2024 the Eki-net Q-Chike service is available.
