History

Sashimaki Station opened on 31 August 1923 as part of the Japanese Government Railways' Obonai light railway, serving the village of Obonai in what is now Semboku, Akita Prefecture. Freight handling ceased in 1960 and parcel service ended in 1965, when the station was made unattended. A 1966 reorganisation transferred it to the renamed Tazawako Line. JNR's 1987 privatisation passed the stop to JR East, and a log-cabin-style station building was completed in March 1997 to coincide with the start of Akita Shinkansen operations on the parallel track.

Notes

The 1997 rebuild gave Sashimaki a log-cabin-style station building, completed to coincide with the start of Akita Shinkansen operations on the line.
