History

Hikime Station opened on 6 November 1934 as part of the Japanese Government Railways' Yamada Line in what is now Miyako, Iwate Prefecture. Storm damage closed the station from 26 November 1946 until reopening in stages in 1949. Freight service ended on 1 November 1961, and parcel handling on 15 November 1982, leaving the station unstaffed. JNR's 1987 privatisation transferred it to JR East. The original wooden station building has been removed; only a platform-mounted waiting room remains alongside the single bi-directional track.

Notes

Closed by 1946 storm damage that severed the eastern Yamada Line, Hikime spent nearly three years out of service before partial reopening in 1949 restored a working passenger connection to Moichi.
