History
Nishime Station opened on 30 June 1922 as a station on the Japanese Government Railways' Rikuusai Line, serving the village of Nishime in Akita Prefecture. Its line affiliation was switched to the Uetsu Main Line on 20 April 1924, where it has remained. The Japanese Government Railways became the Japanese National Railways after the Second World War, and on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR East at JNR's privatisation. A new station building was completed in February 2006. The station has one side platform and one island platform connected by a footbridge and is now unstaffed.
