History
Yudakinshūko Station opened on 15 November 1924 as Rikuchū-Ōishi Station on the now-defunct Yokoguro Line in Iwate Prefecture. When Yuda Dam created Kinshūko (Brocade Autumn Lake) in late 1962, the line was re-routed and the station was relocated to its present site on 1 December 1962 as part of what would become the Kitakami Line. Freight handling ended in March 1973, parcel service in February 1984, and the passing loop was removed in November 1986 when the station became unstaffed. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, operation transferred to JR East. The station was renamed Yudakinshūko on 20 June 1991 to reflect its lakeside location.

Notes
Until October 1986 the station had an island platform with a passing loop; the loop was removed and the station was reduced to a single side platform.
