History

Rikuchū-Ōhashi Station opened on 11 October 1944 on what is now the JR East Kamaishi Line, in the city of Kamaishi, Iwate Prefecture. It was absorbed into the JR East network at the privatisation of the Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. The station now has a single island platform, with no station building remaining and only a small platform shelter for waiting passengers; it is unattended. The site of the former Kamaishi copper mine lies near the station, which sits 73.7 kilometres along the Kamaishi Line from the starting point at Hanamaki.

Notes

Between Rikuchū-Ōhashi and its neighbour Kamiarisu, the Kamaishi Line traces a famous omega-shaped (Ω) loop to gain elevation.
