History

Kanegasaki Station is on JR East's Tōhoku Main Line in Kanegasaki, Iwate Prefecture. It opened on 1 July 1897 and came under JR East on 1 April 1987 with privatisation. The station had two side platforms and two tracks plus a middle siding (removed by 1993), and an overhead concourse building completed on 13 November 2004. From 14 March 2025 the ticket office and vending machine were withdrawn, and the station became unstaffed all day from 15 March 2025.

Kanegasaki's overhead station building also houses the Kanegasaki Chamber of Commerce and the Iwate Furusato Agricultural Cooperative's Kanegasaki branch, in addition to its rail functions.
