History

Yagoshi Station opened on 2 September 1928 as a station of the Japanese National Railways Ōfunato Line in what is now the city of Ichinoseki, Iwate. Freight handling ended on 1 March 1962. From April 1965 the station became an unmanaged stop under Orikabe Station's supervision. Parcel handling ended on 10 March 1983, when the station was reduced to a simple-agency arrangement. The station joined JR East at the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987. The simple-agency contract was discontinued on 1 April 2003 and the station became fully unstaffed. A new station building was completed in March 2005. Yagoshi sits on an embankment, with a single side platform serving one bi-directional track.
