History
Mamurogawa Station opened on 1904-10-21 as Aramachi Station, when the Ōu South Line (now the Ōu Main Line) was extended from Shinjō to Innai; at the time only this station, Kamabuchi and Nozoki served the stretch between Shinjō and Innai. It was renamed to match the town on 1916-09-20. A footbridge was completed on 1966-11-04, the station was contracted out from 1982-03-20 and made staff-less on 1986-04-01 under a simple consignment. JR East took over at the 1987-04-01 privatisation. The current two-storey wood-and-tile station building dates from December 2003 and houses a local-products shop and a waiting room; the consignee handles ticket sales.

Notes
The 2003-built station building carries a hanging sign reading "Mori no Teishaba" (Forest Whistle-stop), reflecting the heavily forested setting that surrounds the town.
