History

Izumita Station opened on 1913-07-15 on the Ōu Main Line in what is now Shinjō, Yamagata Prefecture. Freight handling ended on 1964-03-31, and parcel handling on 1970-10-01, the same date the station was made unattended. It passed to JR East at the 1987-04-01 privatisation of the Japanese National Railways. A replacement station building came into use on 2000-03-20. The station has a single island platform with two tracks connected to the building by a footbridge, and remnants of an older freight platform and a siding can still be seen on the site. It is managed remotely from Shinjō Station.
