History

Ōhori Station opened on 1 February 1949 on the Rikuu East Line in the town of Mogami, Yamagata. Situated 69.5 kilometres from the line's eastern terminus at Kogota, the unstaffed wayside stop serves a single bidirectional track from one side platform, with a small log-cabin-style station building that doubles as the waiting room. Freight and parcel handling ended on 30 November 1971, after which the station was simplified to a contracted unstaffed arrangement. It was transferred to East Japan Railway Company (JR East) on 1 April 1987 when Japanese National Railways was privatised, and remains under the Shinjō operations centre today.

Notes

The station building is built in the style of a log cabin and once housed a small library room added when the building was completed in February 1987.
