History
Ashisawa Station opened on 1 December 1916 on what is now the Ōu Main Line, in the city of Obanazawa, Yamagata Prefecture. It sits 133.7 rail kilometres from the line's terminus at Fukushima. Freight and parcel handling were withdrawn on 21 April 1975, when the station became unattended under simplified entrustment. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the station was absorbed into the East Japan Railway Company (JR East) network. The station has two opposed side platforms connected to the station building by a footbridge and is included in the "Yamagata Line" branded section of the Ōu Main Line.
