History
Kita-Ōishida Station opened on 20 December 1960 on the Ōu Main Line in the town of Ōishida, Yamagata Prefecture. It was unstaffed from the outset, handling passengers only. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 it passed to the East Japan Railway Company (JR East). When the Yamagata Shinkansen was extended to Shinjō on 4 December 1999, some local trains began passing through the station, but full local stops resumed on 2 December 2000. On 7 April 2011 a section of the platform measuring roughly 15 by 3 metres collapsed during a Miyagi offshore earthquake aftershock of the Tōhoku quake.
