History

Nezugaseki Station is on JR East's Uetsu Main Line in Tsuruoka, Yamagata Prefecture, at the boundary with Niigata Prefecture. It opened on 23 November 1923 as a station of the Rikuu West Line and became a station of the Uetsu Main Line on 20 November 1925 with the opening of the Akadani Line branch. The yacht-shaped 1986 station building reflects the nearby marina; the station was unstaffed from 1 April 2004 but an honorary station-master (a JR East retiree) has been appointed since 1 May 2012 as a community volunteer. Some Murakami- and Sakata-bound trains terminate here, including the first and last services of the day, which lay up overnight on platform 2.

Notes

Although Nezugaseki Station is in Yamagata, the points at the Niitsu end of its yard cross the prefectural boundary into Murakami in Niigata.
