History

Matsuyamamachi Station is a Tōhoku Main Line stop in the city of Ōsaki, Miyagi Prefecture, operated by JR East. The station opened on 25 December 1908 and began handling express freight in March 1909, becoming a general station. Because the station sat well outside the town centre, a horse-drawn tramway briefly linked it to a local sake brewery between 1922 and 1929. Freight was discontinued in 1972 and parcels in 1984. The station was absorbed into the JR East network at the privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987, and gained Suica acceptance in October 2003.
