History

Kashimadai Station opened on 1892-03-01 as a general station of the Nippon Railway. Freight handling ended on 1972-07-01, leaving it a passenger-only station, and in October 1978 it was designated an express-train stop in recognition of its role drawing passengers from neighbouring towns. Parcel handling was discontinued on 1984-02-01, and the station passed to JR East at the 1987-04-01 privatisation. Automatic ticket gates were installed on 2003-03-20 and Suica IC service began on 2003-10-26. A free east-west passage and an elevated station building entered service on 2015-11-08, replacing the older ground-level structure. The dedicated ticket office (Midori-no-madoguchi) closed on 2022-11-30.
