History

Mangokuura Station opened on 26 April 1989 as a single-platform halt on the Ishinomaki Line, 37 km from the line's terminus at Kogota. The 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami suspended operations along the entire line on 11 March 2011. Service between Watanoha and Urashuku, including this station, was restored on 16 March 2013; through running to Onagawa resumed only on 6 August 2016. Selected Senseki-Tōhoku Line through trains began calling at the station on the same date in 2016. The station has remained unstaffed throughout its life.
