History
Rikuzen-Ono Station opened on 10 April 1928 as a stop on the Miyagi Electric Railway, which was nationalised on 1 May 1944. Freight handling ended in 1962 and parcel handling in 1970. The station was de-staffed and put under a simple agency in 1983, and passed to JR East at the 1987 privatisation. The 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami stripped the station of its functions on 11 March 2011, with replacement buses operating in place of trains. A new station building opened on 17 March 2012 alongside restored service toward Ishinomaki; through service from Sendai resumed on 30 May 2015 after the inland reroute via the Rikuzen-Ōtsuka–Rikuzen-Ono section was completed.
