History

Takagimachi Station opened on 1928-04-10 as a station of the Miyagi Electric Railway. Wartime nationalisation on 1944-05-01 brought it under the Ministry of Transport and Communications, and freight and parcel handling ended in July 1956 and July 1970 respectively. The station passed to JR East at the 1987-04-01 privatisation. After the 2011-03-11 Great East Japan Earthquake it was closed and reopened on 2011-05-28. During the post-quake recovery, a connecting line between Takagimachi and the Tōhoku Main Line at Matsushima Station was planned to allow Senseki Line trains from the Ishinomaki direction to run through to Sendai; authorised by MLIT on 2013-03-25, it opened on 2015-05-30 as the Senseki-Tōhoku Line.

Notes

The junction with the Senseki-Tōhoku Line is treated as part of Takagimachi's track layout; once radio-system changeovers were moved onto the platform, trains could pass through the connecting line without the mandatory operational stop they previously required.
