History
Kumagane Station is on JR East's Senzan Line in Aoba-ku, Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. It opened on 30 August 1931 with the Senzan-Tōsen extension from Ayashi to Sakunami; passing-loop tracks were added in November 1937. The interior layout was reduced to a single track on 1 April 1971 when freight, parcel handling, and staffing all ended. The current station building was completed on 7 August 1983, and the station came under JR East on 1 April 1987. It is part of the JR Sendai-shi-nai fare zone.

The convenience store in front of Kumagane Station is the last 7-Eleven on the Sendai-bound side of National Route 48 — the next is 29 km west at Inozawa in Higashine, Yamagata.
