History

Rikuzen-Shirasawa Station, on the Senzan Line in Aoba-ku, Sendai, opened on 1931-08-30. For decades it served not only local residents but pilgrims heading north to the Jōgi Nyorai temple and travellers crossing the mountains to Akiu hot spring; freight, including timber and woodchips from a nearby Moriya lumber works, also moved through the station. Freight handling ended on 1980-08-01 and parcel handling on 1984-02-01. CTC operation in 1985 left the station unstaffed, and with the 1987 privatization of Japanese National Railways the station became part of the JR East network. A simplified ticket machine was retired in 2019.

Notes

The two side platforms are linked only by a level pedestrian crossing of the tracks, with a sloped approach that lets wheelchairs use the station despite a step at the train side.
