History

Majima Station, on the Uetsu Main Line in the city of Murakami, Niigata Prefecture, opened on 1924-07-31 when the line between Murakami and Nezugaseki was inaugurated. Freight handling ended on 1960-07-01 and parcel handling on 1972-10-01, at which point the station became unstaffed. The station was absorbed into JR East at the 1987 privatization of Japanese National Railways, and the current station building was completed in March 1988. Majima sits at the south end of the AC-electrified section of the Uetsu Main Line: a dead section just to the south of the platforms marks the boundary with the DC territory toward Murakami.

Notes

Until around 1990 the station was staffed seasonally each summer, and a temporary ticket counter operated until 1985 selling short-distance and platform tickets.
