History

Itsutsubashi Station opened on 1987-07-15 with the inaugural section of the Sendai Subway Namboku Line, beneath Aoba-ku, Sendai. The site has a longer transit history: a Sendai City Tram stop of the same reading served the spot from 1926-11-25 until the tram network closed on 1976-04-01. The current subway station is numbered N11 and lies on Atago-Kamisugi-dōri, with a single island platform underground. Platform-edge doors entered service on 2009-11-28, and icsca was introduced on 2014-12-06. After Tohoku Gakuin University opened its Itsutsubashi Campus on the former municipal hospital site in October 2022, passenger volumes rose sharply.

Notes

Tohoku Gakuin University's 2022 move of a new campus onto the former Sendai City Hospital site has driven a marked jump in daily ridership at the station.
