History

Nagamachi-Minami Station opened on 15 July 1987 with the rest of the Sendai Subway Namboku Line, carrying the station number N16. It sits in Taihaku Ward beneath the road between the ward office and the The Mall Sendai Nagamachi shopping centre, with four surface exits along that route. The station was provisionally called "Nabeta" during construction, after the former place name Nagamachi-Aza-Nabeta. The single island platform on the underground level serves two tracks, and crossover tracks toward Tomizawa allow short-turn operations such as those used after the December 2006 derailment in the Tomizawa depot approach. Platform doors were activated on 24 October 2009 and the icsca smart card was introduced on 6 December 2014.
