History
Tatekoshi Station opened on 22 April 1985 on the Tōhoku Main Line as an unstaffed request station, with the full construction cost of 195 million yen funded by the local community. It was conceived as an access point for Sendai Airport, served by a connecting bus, and carried the subtitle "Sendai Airport Gateway" until the airport rail link opened in 2007. The station entered the JR East network at the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. Services on the Jōban Line that continue through Iwanuma to Sendai also stop here. Elevators and an indoor passage came into use on 10 March 2023.

Notes
Because Tatekoshi opened as an unstaffed halt, the platforms have no ticket gates; passengers walk directly onto each side platform from its respective entrance.
