History

Minami-Nagai Station opened on 20 May 1960 as an unstaffed halt for diesel railcar services on what was then the Japanese National Railways Nagai Line. The station passed to JR East at privatisation on 1 April 1987 and transferred to the third-sector Yamagata Railway on 25 October 1988, becoming a station on the Flower Nagai Line. It consists of a single side platform serving traffic in both directions, with a small waiting room mid-platform.
