History
Niizaki Station opened on 1956-04-15 as a general station when the JNR Hakushin Line was completed end-to-end. Wagon-load freight other than dedicated-line traffic was discontinued on 1978-06-15, and parcel handling ended on 1984-02-01. The station passed to JR East and JR Freight at the 1987-04-01 privatisation. The last freight trains called on 1995-09-30, and an elevated station building entered service on 1995-12-01. Automatic ticket gates began operating on 2005-02-10, and Suica IC service became available on 2006-01-21. The dedicated ticket office (Midori-no-madoguchi) closed on 2023-09-30, and the station is now operated under contract by Niigata Station.
