History

Kabuto Station opened on 1988-07-01 with the conversion of the former Marumori Line into the third-sector Abukuma Express, and sits 25.2 rail kilometres from the line's official starting point at Fukushima. The station serves a sparsely populated section of the city of Date in Fukushima Prefecture and was built on an embankment to keep it above periodic flooding of the Abukuma River. It has no station building and is unstaffed, with a single side platform serving one bi-directional track. In fiscal 2015 the station averaged just three boarding passengers a day.

Notes

The site was originally laid out with land set aside for a passing loop from the JNR Marumori Line era, so even today the station has unused double-track right-of-way extending beyond the single platform.
