History

Shinseki Station opened on 15 April 1954 as a Japanese National Railways station in Akiha-ku, Niigata City, on what is now the JR East Ban'etsu West Line, 170.0 km from the line's terminus at Kōriyama. A passing loop was put into service on 24 September 1965, and an east entrance was added in December 1986. The station transferred to JR East at the 1 April 1987 privatisation, and Suica IC card service became available on 15 March 2008 when the Niigata suburban Suica area was expanded.

Notes

Shinseki operates as a one-track-through station: when no train meet is scheduled, services in both directions use platform 1 next to the station building on the west side. It is an unstaffed station managed by Niitsu Station, with only simple Suica readers and a certificate-issuing machine inside the waiting hall.
