History

Soneda Station, on the Iizaka Line, was first opened on 13 April 1924 by the Fukushima Iizaka Tramway. In 1942 the original station was closed when the Fukushima–Moriai section was rebuilt off the public road, and a replacement opened nearby on 3 December that year under the name Fukushima Electric Railway Soneda Station, which was renamed Dentetsu Fukushima on 17 July 1943. The name reverted to Soneda on 5 September 1962. The on-site rail yard was relocated to Sakuramizu in 1975, after which the eastern through track fell out of use. The building was repainted in 2010 in the cream-and-red livery of the Tōkyū 5000-series cars that had run on the line until 1991, and in April 2022 it was restored to its 1924 appearance with a parked 7000-series two-car set serving as a free waiting area called "Nanasen."

Notes

The waiting room "Nanasen," opened in April 2022, is a retired Iizaka Line 7000-series two-car set (Deha 7101 + 7102) parked on the station's disused eastern track, accessible free of charge or with an admission ticket.
