History

Higashi-Gejō Station, on the Ban'etsu West Line, originated as the Kumawatari temporary halt opened by Japanese National Railways in April 1951. It was promoted to a full station and renamed Higashi-Gejō on 10 January 1953, then placed under business contract in May 1963 before being made unstaffed on 1 December 1973. With the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987 it passed to JR East, and the present station building was rebuilt in 1995. The current structure is split into two small wings flanking the entrance, with the waiting room on the right and the toilet and storage on the left.

Notes

The current station building is split in two by the entrance path, with one block housing the waiting room and the other a toilet and storage shed.
