History

Ogino Station opened on 1 November 1914 as a Railway Agency station, originally handling freight shipments of locally quarried stone. Freight service ended on 1 September 1972, the station was rebuilt with a concrete building in 1978, contract operation followed in 1983, and parcel handling ended on 1 February 1984. The station was destaffed and switched to simple contract operation on 14 March 1985. Control passed to JR East at the JNR breakup on 1 April 1987. The single side platform survives from what was once an island layout, the second track having been removed. The contract operation is scheduled to be discontinued on 1 April 2026, making the station fully unstaffed.

Notes

Ogino is the nearest station to the Fukushima Prefectural Ogino rowing venue, and the surrounding hamlet is dotted with the guest-houses used by rowing crews and competition teams in season.
