History
Inawashirokohan Station opened on 20 July 1986 as a seasonal halt on the Ban'etsu West Line, established by Japanese National Railways to serve summertime bathers at Shida Beach on Lake Inawashiro after a precursor stop at Shida-hama had been operated from 1962 to 1967. The original platform held three-car formations and was later extended to handle six-car trains. The station passed to JR East at the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987. From fiscal 2007 onward no scheduled services have called at the station, leaving it dormant though not formally abolished. Because trains broadcast the station as "Kohan-eki" to avoid confusion with nearby Inawashiro Station, that nickname is used in announcements.

A statue of the "Goddess of Glory" stands beside the platform along National Route 49, the closest rail point to Lake Inawashiro.
