History
Raihai Station opened on 16 December 1913 as a new stop on the Echigo Railway between Nishiyama and Ishiji, in what is now Nishiyama-machi in the city of Kashiwazaki, Niigata Prefecture. The Echigo Railway was nationalized on 1 October 1927 and the station became part of the JNR Echigo Line. Freight handling ended in 1961 and parcel handling in 1982 with the introduction of centralized traffic control, after which staffing was reduced. The station joined the East Japan Railway Company (JR East) on 1 April 1987 with the privatization of JNR. A new station building was completed in 1992, and the station became fully unstaffed in 1993.
