History

Kamijō Station is located in Uonuma, Niigata Prefecture, and serves the Tadami Line, approximately 119 rail kilometres from the line's terminus at Aizu-Wakamatsu. It opened on 1 March 1951 as a temporary halt operated by the Japanese National Railways on the initial western section of the line between Koide and Ōshirakawa, and was promoted to a full station on 1 October of the same year. Following the privatisation of the JNR on 1 April 1987, it was absorbed into the East Japan Railway Company network. The station today consists of a single ground-level side platform serving one bi-directional track, is unattended, and is managed by Echigo-Yuzawa Station.
