History

Uchigamaki Station is on JR East's Iiyama Line in Ojiya, Niigata Prefecture. It opened on 15 June 1927 when the Tōkamachi Line was extended from Echigo-Kawaguchi to Echigo-Iwasawa; the line was renamed the Iiyama Line on 1 June 1944. The station became business-contracted from 1 December 1962, ended freight in 1963 and parcels and staffing in 1970, came under JR East on 1 April 1987, and received a new station building in 1997. Until 31 March 2010 the entire Iiyama Line outside Echigo-Kawaguchi Station was under the Nagano Branch; the Niigata-side stations (between Morimiyanohara and Echigo-Kawaguchi) including Uchigamaki transferred to the Niigata Branch on 1 April 2010.

Notes

The pre-1997 wooden building at Uchigamaki was used as a film location around 1994 for Makoto Wada's "Kowagaru Hitobito — Norikoshi-eki no Keibatsu" (Frightened People).
