History
Echigo-Horinouchi Station opened on 1 August 1922 as part of the Jōetsu Line in present-day Uonuma, Niigata. Upon the privatization of the Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, the station came under the control of JR East. It is located 134.7 kilometres from the starting point of the line at Takasaki. The station has two opposed ground-level side platforms serving three tracks, connected by a footbridge, and operates a staffed Midori no Madoguchi reservation counter. In fiscal 2015 it averaged 433 boarding passengers daily.
