History

Ueda Station opened on 25 February 1897 on the Nippon Railway. Nationalisation followed on 1 November 1906, and the line was redesignated as the Jōban Line on 12 October 1909. Freight on private sidings ended on 20 November 1979 and parcels on 1 February 1984. The station passed to JR East at privatisation on 1 April 1987. A "Moshi-moshi Kaeru-kun" remote-staffed ticket machine replaced the Midori-no-Madoguchi on 22 March 2006, and Suica became available on 14 March 2009.

Notes

Until the 14 March 2015 timetable revision Ueda was a stop for limited express services, but from that day on only local trains call there.
