History

Dentetsu-Kurobe Station opened on 5 November 1922 as Nishi-Mikkaichi Station (西三日市駅), on the Kurobe Railway built by Tōyō Aluminium's subsidiary to support Kurobe River hydroelectric development. The Toyama Electric Railway (now Toyama Chihō Railway) reached the site from Uozu on 1 October 1936, making it a junction. The wartime company consolidation of 1 January 1943 absorbed the Kurobe Railway into Toyama Chihō Railway. The station was renamed Dentetsu-Sakurai (電鉄桜井駅) on 25 June 1951. A branch line to JNR Kurobe was abolished on 17 August 1969. The current name, Dentetsu-Kurobe, was adopted on 1 April 1989 alongside a full interior and exterior renovation.

Notes

Dentetsu-Kurobe is about 1 km from Kurobe Station on the Ainokaze Toyama Railway (the former JR Hokuriku Main Line). It serves as the operational hub of the Toyama Chihō Railway main line, with night-time stabling and many trains beginning or ending their runs here.
