History
Tobu Nikko Station opened on 1929-10-01 as the terminus of Tobu's Nikko Line. The neighbouring Tobu-Mae stop on the Tobu Nikko Tramway was closed on 1968-02-25, and the present alpine-style station building -- with its distinctive triangular gabled roof -- was completed on 1979-10-01 in commemoration of the line's 50th anniversary. The station was named one of the Kanto Region's 100 Best Stations in 2000 for its role as the gateway to the Nikko World Heritage Site. Station numbering (TN 25) was applied on 2012-03-17, and renovations of the waiting room and concourse were finished on 2023-07-15 to coincide with the launch of the Spacia X limited express service.
