It opened on 28 March 1949 with station number N17, lost freight service on 1 April 1968, was relocated to a new station building in April 1986, and became unstaffed in 1995. It has a single island platform with two tracks and a stabling siding; A-Limited Express and B-Limited Express services pass through without stopping.

Notes

Although it shares its kanji 桜沢 with a Chichibu Railway station in Saitama, the two are pronounced differently: Nakano's stop is Sakura-sawa, while the Saitama one is Sakura-zawa.
