History

Shintomichō Station opened on 1 September 1913 as 神通町停留場 (Jinzū-machi Stop, named for the local district along the Jinzū River) under the Toyama Denki Kidō (Toyama Electric Tramway). It was transferred to the City of Toyama on 1 July 1920, relocating to its present site around 1934 after a route revision through Sakurabashi, Toyama-Eki-Mae, and Sōgawa. The Toyama Chihō Railway absorbed the line on 1 January 1943. The stop was suspended after the Toyama air raid of 2 August 1945 and reopened on 15 March 1949 with the Toyama-Eki-Mae–Hatagomachi restoration. It was renamed Shintomichō Station on 1 May 1962, and barrier-free upgrades, including a ramp and a sheltered platform, were completed in March 2016.

Notes

The relative platforms sit on opposite sides of the intersection in a staggered (chidori) arrangement, so passengers boarding outbound and inbound trains stand at separate signal-controlled corners.
