History

Chitetsu-Building-mae Station is on the Toyama Chihō Railway Toyama-gun-dōsen Honsen (main tram line) in Sakurabashi-dōri, Toyama, with station number C13. The tracks curve significantly at the stop. The stop opened around 1934 as Sakuramachi Stop of the Toyama Municipal Tramway when the line between Sakurabashi, Toyama-eki-mae and Sōgawa was rerouted; the Sakuramachi tram depot at the northeast corner of the present Chūō-Yūbinkyoku-mae intersection (today the Toyama Chihō Golden Bowl) served as the depot of the line. The line passed to Toyama Chihō Railway on 1 January 1943, was renamed Yūbinkyoku-mae on 25 January 1954, became a junction stop on 8 November 1964 with the Tōbu Line opening, and was renamed Chitetsu-Building-mae on 25 November 1966 after the railway's headquarters moved here. The Tōbu Line was abolished on 21 September 1972.

Notes

Chitetsu-Building-mae briefly served as the western terminus of the Tōbu Line — but the Tōbu junction lasted only eight years, from its opening on 8 November 1964 until the line's abolition on 21 September 1972. The 2009 Centram loop only stops here in the inner-loop direction because the loop runs counterclockwise on a one-way schedule.
