History
Jōmō-Kōgen Station opened on 15 November 1982 with the launch of Joetsu Shinkansen service between Ōmiya and Niigata. The elevated station is the only Shinkansen-exclusive stop on the line north of Takasaki, and the only Shinkansen station in Gunma located in a town rather than a city. The Daishimizu mineral-water bottling base, source of the brand now known as From AQUA, was installed under the elevated tracks in July 1985. JR East assumed operation on 1 April 1987 with JNR's privatisation, and the Midori no Madoguchi ticket office closed at the end of November 2023, replaced the following day by a 'talking' reserved-seat ticket machine.

Notes
Local tourism and business groups have lobbied for over a decade to rename the station to include 'Minakami', arguing that the existing name fails to identify its host town to visitors.
