History

Murayama Station opened on 28 June 1926 on the Nagano Electric Railway Nagano Line, in what is now the city of Suzaka, Nagano Prefecture, near the Chikuma River. The original platform stood next to a level crossing on the Nagano-side approach; the station was moved to its present position in September 1953 when new crossing facilities were installed, and was reclassified from a halt to a stop at the same time. Freight handling ended on 1 September 1970, and the station was made unstaffed on 1 October 2009 in response to declining traffic. It carries the line number N11.

Notes

Trains run on the right at Murayama — an unusual reversal forced by the position of the in-station level crossing.
