History

Ogitsu Station began traffic operations on 16 December 1909 and formally entered service as a Railway Board station on 18 March 1910. Located on the Jōban Line about 152.4 km from Nippori, it serves the Hidaka district of Hitachi city in Ibaraki Prefecture. The current overhead station building was completed in 1982, replacing the original ground-level structure. JNR's privatisation on 1 April 1987 transferred operation to JR East. Suica use began on 15 March 2008 with the eastward expansion of the Tokyo Metropolitan Area zone, and barrier-free elevators on the east-west free passage entered service on 1 March 2009. The Midori no Madoguchi staffed-ticket office closed on 30 September 2018.

Notes

Ogitsu's platform melodies are local compositions by Hitachi-born songwriter Masao Yoshida: "Itsudemo Yume O" sounds for up trains and "Ashita wa Sakou Hana Sakou" for down trains.
