History

Chisato Station opened on 1 September 1927 with the inauguration of the Hietsu Line between Toyama and Etchū-Yatsuo, which was incorporated into the Takayama Main Line on 25 October 1934. It is now operated by JR West and located in the city of Toyama. Freight and parcel handling ended on 1 October 1969, when the station was made unstaffed; safety staff remained until a footbridge was completed on 19 February 1970. Control passed to JR West with the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. The station retains its original wooden station building, has two opposed side platforms serving two tracks, and remains unattended.
