History

Shin-Nishi-Kanazawa Station opened on 22 June 1915 as Shin-Nonoichi Station on the Ishikawa Railway's new line from Nomachi to Tsurugi, in what is today Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture. It passed to Kanazawa Electric Tramway when that company absorbed Ishikawa Railway on 1 May 1923, and was renamed Shin-Nishi-Kanazawa Station on 1 October 1925. With the creation of Hokuriku Railroad on 13 October 1943 it became part of that operator's Ishikawa Line. Freight operations ended on 1 April 1976, and routine station duties were contracted out on 1 October 1989. It sits beside JR West's Nishi-Kanazawa Station.

Notes

The station's only platform sits directly across from a Kenmin Sport Recreation Plaza skating rink, an unusual immediate neighbour for a small private-railway stop.
