History
Hitachi-Taga Station serves the city of Hitachi, Ibaraki Prefecture, on JR East's Jōban Line, 142.0 km from the line's starting point at Nippori. It opened on 25 February 1897 as Shimomago Station (下孫駅) and was renamed Hitachi-Taga on 20 October 1939. Operated since the 1 April 1987 privatisation of the Japanese National Railways by JR East, the elevated station has one side platform and one island platform served by a Midori no Madoguchi ticket office, and continues to function as a freight depot for the Japan Freight Railway Company alongside its passenger role.
