History
Nishi-Ueda Station opened on 1 June 1920 as Kita-Shiojiri Station on the Ministry of Railways Shinetsu Main Line, in the Shimo-Shiojiri area of what is now Ueda, Nagano Prefecture. It was renamed Nishi-Ueda on 10 April 1956. A Japan Oil Terminal depot opened beside the station on 1 October 1967; car-load freight handling outside that lease was discontinued in 1978, and parcel handling ended in 1984. With the 1 April 1987 privatisation, the station passed to JR East and JR Freight. On 1 October 1997 the route was transferred to Shinano Railway following the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen. The oil terminal closed in 2011, and the station became unstaffed on 7 May 2026.
